Some potentially hopeful news emerged this week in the Lyme disease community as the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) website has included Lyme disease in a list of diseases that can lead to lingering, chronic symptoms.
Although there is still a long way to go, hopefully this is a step in the right direction as the possibility of a chronic form of the disease has been rigorously denied.
Understandably, there is some debate in the Lyme community about whether this is a genuine change in direction when the possibility of ongoing infection isn’t spelled out. However, It is our hope that this acknowledgement of chronic symptoms linked to Lyme disease leads to significant research into better testing and treatment, including for those who are chronically ill beyond the standard course of treatment.
