Lyme Disease UK were thrilled to be invited back to the annual Bushcraft Show, an amazing 3 day outdoors event, which this year took place in the grounds of Stanford Hall, Lutterworth in Leicestershire.
This year was exceptional because our Press and Community Outreach Manager, Julia Knight, was invited to give a presentation about ticks and Lyme disease on the main stage. The presentation was very popular and many people who listened then sought out the LDUK stand to pick up awareness leaflets, as well as other information about repellents and tick tools.
Many children took part in our little quizzes, in particular where they could win a “jelly insect” if they could tell Julia how many legs a tick has!
About 250 awareness packs were handed out, many discussion about ticks and how to prevent a bite were had and lots of connections were made for LDUK to attend other events and for Julia to give awareness talks for other organisations.
Many thanks must go to Julia and husband John (who basically makes these sorts of events possible by transporting Julia and her boxes and boxes of equipment to anywhere she needs to go!) and to LDUK online community member, Julie-Ann Gylaitis, who volunteered to help throughout the weekend. It was also lovely to meet the Green Man of the Woods again, who always supports our cause.
A special thank you to the Bushcraft Show organiser, David Thompson, who invites LDUK along every year and has helped us out with equipment in the past, but who was very happy to see LDUK turn up with a brilliant LDUK branded gazebo for our pitch this year! Thank you to everybody who supports and donates to LDUK to make things like this possible.
