Singer Avril Lavigne has released a new song ‘Head Above Water’ which is the first music she has released in 5 years because she has been battling Lyme disease. The track is climbing the iTunes charts and the powerful lyrics will undoubtedly resonate with the Lyme community and beyond. Avril is doing a fantastic job of raising awareness of the illness and it is great that she is feeling well enough to release new music. She has started The Avril Lavigne Foundation to help those with Lyme and other debilitating illnesses. She told Rolling Stone magazine;
“I thought I was dying, and I had accepted that I was going to die. My mom laid with me in bed and held me. I felt like I was drowning. Under my breath, I prayed ‘God, please help to keep my head above the water.’ In that moment, the song writing of this album began. It was like I tapped into something. It was a very spiritual experience. Lyrics flooded through me from that point on.”
