JOSEPH G. JEMSEK, MD, FACP, AAHIVS Board Certified Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease
Dr. Jemsek is a board-certified physician in infectious disease and internal medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of Illinois, Medical Center of Chicago, and completed his internship and residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. He then went on to complete a postgraduate fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine at the Texas Medical Center in Houston, TX. Dr. Jemsek practiced medicine for more than two decades at the Nalle Clinic in Charlotte, NC, and diagnosed the first patient with HIV/AIDS in North Carolina in 1983.
In 2000, he founded a specialty infectious disease practice with the goal of serving patients with HIV/AIDS, in addition to practicing general infectious disease (including Lyme Borreliosis Complex). His practice soon evolved as he began treating more and more patients with Lyme Borreliosis Complex (LBC), also commonly referred to as Lyme disease, and began solely treating patients with Lyme disease in 2005. The Jemsek Specialty Clinic (JSC) in Washington, DC officially opened its doors in January 2010; since that time, the practice has grown, with the addition of four physician assistants and two nurse practitioners, all dedicated to serving patients from around the world with LBC. www.jemsekspecialty.com
